Prints and accessories by Brighton based screenprint artist Ruth Wragg-Jones. Sussex buildings visited by one curious octopus.
I’m Ruth, a Brighton‑based screen print artist. I’ve been happily printing for over twenty years, the sound, the process, the mess, it completely absorbs me.
My prints are called Cephalopod Scenes (sefalopod), a name my son came up with. Even though it’s technically just octopuses, and no one knows how to say it, the name stuck and I like it.
My work brings together two things I love: Sussex architecture and creatures that live in the sea. I’m a former diver who still dreams of getting back underwater one day, so it is no surprise that sea life sneaks into my prints.
I love creating these pieces, I draw the lines, repeating patterns and structure of the buildings first and then love the freedom and fluidity of drawing the octopus over the top. Each has a different character and perhaps a different intention. Curious or conquering you decide.
Here you can buy my prints in different sizes, along with limited edition screen prints and bags. You can also see where I'll be showing my work. Just follow the links at the top of the page. Happy browsing.
